As we complete an unpredictable and wacky year, I’m finishing my blog with a review that’s near and dear to my heart—especially for us girls who had to contend with coiffure in the lack of regular visits to the salon. With dry, frizzy, and color-treated (that is, damaged) locks, I was more than eager to test the Redken Extreme Length range thanks to Beauty CREW’s trial program.
I’ve used Redken products before—Redken All Soft Conditioner is a favourite—but this was my first time diving into a complete system designed specifically to support longer, stronger hair. And yes, it features biotin, the well-known vitamin often linked to hair growth. So if you’ve been wondering “does hair growth shampoo work?”, keep reading—this is a review based on 3 months of consistent use.
What’s included in the Redken Extreme Length Range?
- Redken Extreme Length Shampoo (300mL)
- Redken Extreme Conditioner (250mL)
- Extreme Length Leave-In Treatment (150mL)
Each of these features biotin to dissolve breakage and encourage healthiest-ever hair. Redken claims this system can reduce breakage by up to 81% when used together. That’s a pretty bold statement—but did it work?
My First Impressions
Let’s start with the shampoo. It’s thick, clear, and foams up quite a bit. I usually double wash my hair, but with this hair care shampoo, one wash typically did the trick. It’s extremely sweet-scented and strong-something to be aware of if you’re sensitive to scents.
The conditioner, like all salon items, is thick and rich. Getting it out of the bottle was a chore, so I’ve had it upside down since the first day. A bit does go a long way, and it rinses out with no residue.
The leave-in treatment was the product I was most skeptical of. I prefer to use oils because most creams feel sticky to me. But once I adjusted my application—on very wet hair and in a larger amount than suggested—it was a part of my regimen.
The Results After 5 Weeks—and Beyond
From the very first Redken shampoo, I noticed a dramatic reduction in hair loss and breakage. That was in itself a miracle. Later on, my hair became noticeably stronger, less frizzy, and easier to manage. The brush glided through my hair easily instead of catching on tangles. Split ends looked more sealed, and overall, my hair just looked healthier and softer.
I continued to use all three products once the trial period ended and finished the bottles in about three months on three washes a week.
But I did experience some flakiness and itchiness on my scalp towards the end. It’s not clear if this was a result of product buildup, dryness, or sensitivity. When I changed to using another shampoo—like Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate or Redken Frizz Dismiss—the irritation stopped. So next time,
I will alternate the Extreme Length system rather than use it straight through.
Is Biotin Truly the Secret?
Redken Extreme Length places biotin center stage as the active ingredient. As much as it’s a fan favorite among hair growth hair growth shampoo and conditioner , the science isn’t unified when it comes to topical biotin. What is established is that it helps primarily in those who have a biotin deficiency, and little exists to suggest a clear-cut effect on the masses. That’s not to say it is solely biotin—Redken’s entire product formulation seems to be the actual secret.
The conditioner contains castor oil, and the leave-in contains soy protein—both of which are known to assist in repairing and strengthening the hair shaft and preventing breakage. Together, the system feels more like a repair treatment for damage, rather than a standard shampoo and conditioner.
Final Thoughts: Is Redken Extreme Length Worth It?
If you have brittle, dry, or chemically treated hair, Redken Extreme Length is definitely worth a try. It’s not some magic hair growth serum, but it does strengthen your hair, soften your hair, and cause your hair to appear much healthier. Just be careful on sensitive scalps with extended use.
Pros:
- Lessens breakage and hair loss
- Making hair stronger and more manageable
- Light weight leave-in once you get the hang of it
Cons:
- Strong perfume might not appeal to everyone
- Possible scalp irritation with prolonged use
About Me
I’m a Melbourne-based makeup artist and hairstylist, and owner of award-winning bridal beauty team, Faces Makeup & Hair. I’ve used my way through just about every hair treatment product available. While I don’t expect miracles from every product, Redken has absolutely blown me away over the years—from Redken Shades EQ Gloss to Redken Guts, and now this system.
Whether you’re styling with Redken Wax Blast 10, spritzing Redken Hairspray, or trying out Redken Brews for men, there’s something in this brand for every hair type. And yes, in case you’re wondering—Redken is not considered cruelty-free, as their parent company L’Oréal sells in markets that require animal testing.
Still, if you’re after a hair growth shampoo and conditioner duo that does more than just clean your hair, Redken Extreme Length might just be your next holy grail.
